FROM PRAGUE WITH LOVE - PART TWO!

On our second day in Prague , Ben and I went over the the Prague Train station - in a dinghy side of town that looked slightly untrustworthy , where a homeless man opened our door and let us into the train station - yes a homeless door man - how does that work? We got our tickets which would take us to the village of Kutna Hora - about an hour out of Prague - as we were going to see the 'Kostnice' a Church of Bones (but more on that soon). We got on our little train , where the step to get on board looked almost death defying and as Ben and I looked around we couldnt help but laugh , to say it was not the most luxurious of trains was an understatement!
We sat in our lovely stale mint blue carriage and chatted randomly the whole way to our destination. Once we arrived to Kutna Hora , it was about 15minutes by foot to get to the 'Kostnice' - while walking around this little observing the children play out the front of the community flats , something tells me this is the kind of place where these children will soon be saying 'I need to move to Prague' - children with dreams of moving to the big smoke. There was something humble and calm about the village though and me and Ben just took it all in. As we appraoched the bleak church on the hill it was a lot smaller than we both thought it would be. Some history on it for you , in around 1400 the Gothic church was built in the center of a cemetery with a vaulted upper level and a lower chapel level to be used as an ossuary - meaning a site made to be served as a resting place of human skeletal remains. They are frequently used where burial space is scarce. Its estimated that it contains between 40,000 and 70,000 skeletons. Small as it is when I walked in I was suddenly overwhelmed by my surroundings, eery and amazing all at once. The entrance lined with skull and cross bones gave me a slight chill.
As we walked further into the church I was astonised by the coat of arms and chandelier all made from skull and bones. Truly works of art in their own right and very inspirational to me.

As many of you know I have quite a love for the old skull especially in mixing it with fashion so it was a very cool place to visit for me and both Ben and I felt like it was very reminiscent of Alexander McQueen's new menswear collection. Funny how I turn everything back to fashion! We spent about half an hour at the church then headed through the rest of the village to see a couple more churches have a bit of an explore and something to eat. It was quite a peaceful village , very windy and steep much like Prague but on more of a smaller scale. The little houses and buildings the backdrop of churches poking through the trees and just the scenery of the village was beautiful in a very still way. Pictures speak better than words though so check it out!
After our walkabout we went back to the local town area to grab some food , burgers for lunch deciding to opt for something quick and easy and then it was a walk back to the train station via the big 'albert' supermarket to buy some czech junk food - and that we did. Czech crisps , chocolates and sweets from the bakery all ready to be scoffed on the train home! Once back in Prague it was straight to the hotel for a much deserved nap exhausted from the day-trip. We woke up to then do another big walk of the city. As previously mentioned I love how czech and serb is so similar. To say wait in serb is cekaj , same as in czech so i had to snap this traffic sign.
Before I had left Australia someone had mentioned the 'pissing statues' in Prague and I never gave it another thought , but funnily enough we did bump into the pissing statues. Hilarious!

It was quite a funny end to a really fun day , we still had another two days in Prague for more adventures to follow! Stay tuned for the next installation xoxo Deni
