LONDON FASHION WEEK - DAY THREE!

I woke up on Day 3 of LFW feeling the need to be slightly geeky-cool for one of the most important shows on our calendar was on this afternoon (meadham kirchoff...but more on that later) , so I channeled my inner Brad (Rachel Zoe's assistant) and rocked a check shirt , bow tie , beanie and faux glasses look for another day of non stop action. I was uber pleased with my look! I met Rach at the office in the morning and within half an hour we were hailing a cab to head to Somerset House for the Future classics show - Show numero uno for the day. Backstage was cool as a cucumber and everything was organised well planned and not hectic in any way - it felt kind of strange as its normally a lot more hustle and bustle at shows backstage. Back at front of house of the Portico rooms we delayed the show as long as possible for the arrival of our Vogue representative. Once she arrived , seated front row with Kara herself , the show was ready to begin. The collection was full of beautiful pieces styled perfectly together for the urban warrior princess who wants to remain feminine and cool. My favorite pieces were a striped hoody , striped leggings in the same colour way and these awesome little fur hats some of the looks had. *notice Kara and Miss.Vogue (I cant remember her name for the life of me) in the front row.*women of the world take not (my mother included) grey hair is on the rise - as picture shows above Miss.Vogue herself sporting her grey mane loud and proud - its also made an appearance on the catwalks of Chanel and on young blogger Tavi (yes slightly ironic I know) but its definitley not embarrassing to sport your grey hair any more ladies so embrace it if you so desire! The show was a success and there will be many wearable/sellable/styleable (if thats a word) pieces , that i'm sure many a girl will want to get their hands on. As I thanked guests for their presence I was tapped on the shoulder "...Kara wants you backstage" - with that sentence I swooped backstage to find the amazing Kara post-costume change into a fierce pair of Meadham Kirchoff trousers , blouse and cropped sweater "Kara you look amazing" - I exclaimed , and truly she did. This woman can pull any look off , and with the throw of her fur over she entrusted me with taking her gorgeous daughters bag (a baby pink carry all with her baby pink bunny sticking out of it) to bring to the Meadham Kirchoff show with me. Her daughter , can I just say , is as equally stylish as her mother , sporting her Stella McCartney for GAP jeans , and a Miu Miu puffy parka she was too cute for words! It feels like every day that goes by I become more comfortable with Kara and continue to be so incredibly in awe of her - amazing business woman and incredible mother all in one! Off to the Meadham Kirchoff show - bunny bag in tow - through the streets of Covent Garden all the roads were blocked as the BAFTA's were going on and red carpet mayhem was in overdrive. We could hear the roar of screaming fans and the blinding flash of paparazzi was unavoidable. The Meadham show was in a large venue - the same venue that Elton John had his costume exhibition in - however we were early and told to come back in an hour as there was currently another show on. The other interns and I wandered the streets to find some food - a bag of crisps and a bag of cookies for me - and then I received a phone call from Rach advising me to buy some vegetarian sushi for Kara. 'No problem' I thought - wrong. Finding fresh vegetarian sushi on a sunday in Covent Garden seemed impossible and before I knew it I was running around the streets like a madman (bunny bag still in tow) to find some decent sushi. After almost 10minutes of running I finally found a 'Wasabi' three blocks away to finally find some fresh vegetarian sushi 'SUCCESS at last' I thought - and suddenly as I ran back through the overl packed streets knocking people with Mr.Bunny Bag as I went , sushi in hand I couldnt help but feel slightly Anne Hathaway-esque! I got to the venue , delivered my sushi , but my bag away and started to help put press releases and goodie bags out. As I walked into the venue it was the first time we've had a show in quite a theatrical setting. The Meadham Kirchoff boys had layed persian rugs , hung tinsel and printed wallpaper from the roofs and a 4,000 pound fragrance machine - dispersing perfume into the air , set a scene of Persia-meets-Spain for this colorful collection. The models backstage were getting primmed as I snapped away!
After being instructed to help seat the 300+ guests invited I was overwhelmed by how many people were to attend this show. The house was literally full , each row , each block packed to the rafters. I asked people to move , so as to make room for front row VIPs '...please guys can we make some room for - insert name - Editor of Italian Elle magazine' - in the past few days sentences such as these had become such common play that I had to take a second to stop and embrace the moment and the amazingness of my current state of life! Back to work it was and everyone was seated. I managed to squeeze myself in the paparazzi pit as italian papparazo shouted and yelled at me to get out of their way. The entire space went pitch black and noises of thunder and wind blared through the venue. Birds chirped and the lights came on - showtime!
The collection was very different to Meadham Kirchoff's signature dark sombre design aesthetic , in a review I later read the boys were quoted as saying , they wanted to create as many beautiful pieces as they could and mix them all together in a juxtaposition of crazy looks! For the first time Meadham Kirchoff also used color , real vibrant popping color! During the whole show I couldnt help but smile at Kara & her two daughters in the front row - adorable, how lucky are these girls to be exposed to an amazing world of fashion at such a young age! The models did their final march , the boys came out to wave & the show was a success!
Editors , celebrities (I sat Roisin Murphy - singer of Moloko , for this show) , stylists and the like headed backstage to congratulate the boys where champagne had been popped and celebration was under way. It was very inspirational to see how happy the boys were and I suddenly had a moment where I thought 'One day Deni , One day'. It was also beautiful to see the pieces up close backstage as combined the looks seem a bit crazy but seperatley the pieces are quite amazing and can be quite wearable if paired down with the right seperates. For example this animal print vest worn with a plain white long sleeve and pair of black skinny jeans - perfection.

...as I left the venue , walking into the brisk London night , I felt once again , more inspired then ever to make my fashion dreams a reality...very very soon! xoxo Deni

LONDON FASHION WEEK - DAY TWO!

Day Two was shaping up to a huge day - and I was still hopping off Cloud 9 from the night before's introduction to London Fashion Week. As I arrived at Somerset House on the Saturday , it was an oddly sunny day for a London winter and nice to be able to put our sunglasses on as we strode towards reception. We had to go to reception and register ourselves so that we would secure passes to come in and out of Somerset House (LFW's official Headquarters) for the week.
Pass around neck and it was off upstairs to the 'Portico Rooms' on a second floor - soon to be my second home for the next few days - for the Louise Gray show. The LG show was not a runway show but more of a presentation. A chance for the buyers , editors and fashionistas alike to see the clothes close up , interact with the models and chat to Louise on a more personal level. Louise is a short fiery scottish woman living in East London and very much eminates the east-london-eclectic-girl vibe. Her clothes are very arty and playful , full of color and this season inspired by patchwork quilting , fur and the like. I started to help out as much as I could and before I knew it I was folding up the look books that needed to be handing out and watching as the 'mini-Louise-Gray' interns were following her every order. Its funny how staff mimick their bosses/co-workers. The Rika assistants were all stylish-chic mini Rika's and Louise's girls were all eclectic artsy-east london types. How ironic. Backstage was quite calm & different to a show!As Kara walked in this morning her colourful hot fuschia with yellow printed Louise Gray dress layered perfectly under her fur made my eyes pop out of my head. I become more in awe of her as each day goes by. She entrusted me with the duty of standing at the front door with the ever important list to check people off as they were coming in for the presentation. Here I am standing in the days attire of my trusty H&M skinny's , a grey short sleeve shirt I picked up back home for super cheap at Target and a Diesel Black Gold suspenders/waistcoat type thing , worth more than all the clothes in my outfit combined however the high-low mix works!
Being at front of house for most of the presentation - as guests were coming and going over the course of a 2 hour period , I didnt get to see much of the presentation , but I did manage to pop in for 5 minutes , long enough to see Louise Gray (after a costume change) talking to her guests...
After the Louise show was done we all breathed a sigh of relief and decided that in the 40minutes spare we had it was time to get some food into our system. Now let me make one thing clear about fashion week - you are so busy and constantly on the go , some days travelling from 2 to 3 locations working just as many shows that your eating habits/diet are completely out of wack. I would best describe my fashion week food intake as - eating tiny bits of crap throughout the day - please queue a packet of HARIBO 'Fangtasia' lollies which became energy supplements at Felder Felder. Triple Choc Cookies - 1 pound from Sainsburys - were a constant source of engergy over the entire course of Fashion Week and food options included Tesco's , Sainsbury's , Pret and Iceland - did someone say fashion is glamorous? As Jane , Rachel , Sarah and I walked over to the closest Pret , our eyes possibly hungrier than our stomachs we dove for sandwiches , bags of crisps , Diet Coke (yes its back - for fashion week at least) and I made a mad dash for Tesco's for some well deserved Chocolate Cookies. Stomach's full we headed back to the Portico Rooms for our next show - one I was very excited about as she is one of my new favorite designers - HOLLY FULTON! It was enough for me to arrive Backstage to see a floor filled of studded Christian Louboutin trainers - the same trainers I've been lusting over for months and had my name on the waiting list for - after having to cancel - pure wow factor!
We set up the benches - or at least supervised the men do the heavy lefting - and had put press releases and bottles of Evian down for VIPs and before I knew it Sarah and I were at the door checking people off our lists. it soon became apparent , that this was one of the hottest tickets of fashion week. Everyone wanted to be at this show! Holly has had quite a strong public reaction and a lot of press lately so it was any wonder that people were clamouring to be at her show! Guests were in and the doors shut and I quickly secured myself prime position for photographs. The music began as the show was off...you many times here the phrase 'A Fashion Moment' - when french fashion house received 'Decarnin's Rejuvenation' as he sent shoulder pads & studs down the runway this was a fashion moment. When Alexander McQueen sent 30cm high boots , so high they were made almost against the law to sell , down the runway - that was a fashion moment. Well at the Autumn/Winter Holly Fulton show , I experience a fashion moment. Its unmistakable, you can feel the buzz in the air as thick as smog. Everyone at the edge of their seats, me squealing at almost every look that came down the runway and the crowd cheering for Holly as she came out at the end of her show , these are all perfect signs of a fashion moment. Her signature - now iconic - digital prints had me salivating at the mouth. Inspired by an urban city girl from an ambiguos metropolis based on New York , she worked on themes of city scapes , the telephone and her collaboration with Swarovski was evident as ever in all the beatifully Swarovski encrusted embellishment. I wish I could put every look down but of the collection here are some of my favorites. This spearmint printed top and phone printed jeans are pure fun!
These almost tribal inspired black and white printed skinny jeans will actually grace my legs once they hit stores no matter what the pricetag - and I love that she's teamed them with my favorite Louboutins - too fabulous for words now really isnt it - I would wear with a white tee!The way the following top shimmered when the light hit the crystals , paired with these fantastical printed leggings , had me smiling from ear to ear and literally squealing with glee!
The below oversized orange printed parka actually left me breathless - I need it right now Holly!...the Finale dress - which i've named Little Miss Sunshine - is just a ray of glistening sunshine that sparkles in every wich way. I love the way Holly colour blocks her looks as the show progressed from greeny-blue hues , into black and white followed by orange & then finished off with yellow. This dress is going to be on the hitlist of every celeb in London & beyond!!!

The show came to a close with a roaring applause as shy Holly came out the end for a wave. I ran back stage to congratulate her on an amazing show and was truly still blown away by every look. Seeing them upclose backstage , made me even more in awe of her magical fashion fantasy! Keep your eyes peeled for Holly Fulton as you'll all be seeing her dresses in the new Sex and the City Movie as Carrie Bradshaw wears a Holly Fulton dress (whether or not more than 1 dress is featured i'm not sure but keep your eyes open for HF in SATC2)...as I walked around the room , thanking guests for attending , I noticed a couple in the front row with tears in their eyes , when I looked closely this couple , whom Holly had kissed at the end of her show , were Holly's parents. Seeing how proud they were of their daughters acheivments made me a bit emotional and put a tear in my eye , at the end of the day everything I do , I do it for my parents , their support is overwhelming and I just hope that one day I will make them equally as proud! Day 2 had ended on a high note and as I walked out of Somerset House into the London night I couldnt help but smile at the thought of what my fashion future has instore for me. xoxo Deni

LONDON FASHION WEEK - DAY ONE!

*the following paragraph was written on my blackberry as it happened...

I'm currently riding in a private car with Kara Goodley to our first show for fashion week Felder Felder - as specificly required by Kara herself. Is this really happening? Somebody pinch me!

8 HOURS EARLIER

I couldnt believe , as I woke up this morning , that today was the first day of London Fashion Week. I couldnt believe that after only 5 months of coming to this country , I would be working LFW. How did this happen to me? I couldnt believe how lucky I was. I took a moment to reflect before the hustle and bustle was due to begin - ok moment over - time to get dressed. I threw on a comfortable pair of harem style trousers , black with grey panels in the leg and only 5pounds on sale at H&M , paired them with an old favorite Ksubi tee , rocked some jewellery and a beanie. I thought in the evening I'll just throw some shoulder pads and do my hair for the show
As I arrived to the office I was immediatley assigned to quickly run out and do a few errands , a few last minute invites needed to be walked out for shows starting later in the week. I willingly took the assignment and made sure I did it efficiently , its LFW and there's much to be done & my main goal is to prove to the Goodley team that i've got what it takes. Back from my errands and it was time to tidy the showroom , apart from the fact that it should always be tidy , it was fashion week and at any time an editor , stylist or special guest could arrive requesting something from the showroom so it needed to be in perfect order. I quickly stopped for a drink of water and as Kara walked passed she stopped and said 'You Mr. were amazing last night at the Rika party, thankyou for all your help' - 'Thankyou' I replied, I couldnt beleive this, to receive such a compliment from her was an honor and the perfect way to start my fashion week. At one point I was sent out to get Jane a hot chocolate when I noticed , while waiting , that Kara was up at the counter waiting for her coffee. She stood there in the most amazing fur jacket i've ever seen. A light brown and white combination with pink pattern through it - it sounds awful I realise but its amazing! Now the way I saw this I had two options , I could either pretend I hadnt seen her , dont speak to her , or make an effort and let her get to know me better. I approached her and before I knew it we were chatting about Fashion Week , the future of new designers and Prada turbans - this was no Miranda Priestly moment , I was having a genuine conversation with this amazing woman in quite a random way. Before I knew it , the time had arrived for us to almost leave for the Felder Felder show. However , not all the interns could go to this show so it was decided by our office manager Thanos , that our names would be put into a hat and chosen fairly. I hoped with every inch of my being that i would be chosen , yet stood there calmly not making a fuss and willing to stay if that was the case. When my name was picked I sighed relief and just said 'cool' - calmly. The fashion gods are looking down on me! Before all the interns headed off , Kara , one of the directors Annette and Sarah , the PR girl who's incharge of the Felder Felder account , needed to leave to get there a bit earlier. Someone had to go along to help however and when asked '...right who's ready to leave with Kara?' , by Thanos , Kara replied "I want Deni to come with me , Deni get yourself let's go" - I couldnt beleive what was happening , grabbed my coat and bag and followed this amazing woman.

FAST FORWARD TO IN THE CAR AS FIRST PARAGRAPH BEGAN

Kara Goodley is one of those incredible women who knows exactly what to say and when to say it. Not only does she have a fantastic sense of humour , wit and cheekiness about what she says she is the epitome of urban chic. As we arrive to Victoria House the location of the show we are given our backstage passes and ushered down the hall through to backstage. I cant explain how I felt , the backstage frenzy , the buzz of the models running around , hair & make up doing their thing , sheer excitement and anticipation in the air - it was like a drug and I was already hooked! The Felder girls (twin sisters) were tall , thin and beautiful. They chatted to Kara pre-show, talked into their blackberries and made sure the models were primmed perfectly for the show. Before the show begins , we're sent onto the runway to put down Press Releases - basically a few statements explaining the inspiration behind the designers collection and a bit about the designer/designers to give the guests a better idea of what they're about to see. Evian water is put down in the front row and goodie bags are put to the side to be given to VIPs at the end.

Before I knew it guests were almost ready to be seated and interns were scattered across the room to stand , look pretty and represent Goodley. However I was given a clipboard and advised to help the PR girls with seating the guests - I couldnt beleiving they were trusting me 'the intern' to work with them - Deni this is your chance. Before I knew it , lists on clipboard , clipboard in hand I was seating people as efficiently as the PR girls and then to my suprise a Paparazzi frenzy occured as Pixie Geldof arrived at the show. True to what you would think , she bopped around in her mini and rock boots running across the front row talking to friends , sitting on her boyfriends lap and just having that rockstars-daughter-i-dont-give-a-fuck sensibility. From the first beats of the music , the energy was in the air and the show began. The collection was a fusion of androgny and femininity. Leather, studs, corsets and embellishment , very much Felder Felder's signature style. The first look a black corset dress - I couldnt stop smiling! The models strode down the runway with their fierce confidence as the show came to an end. I went backstage with Kara & co and introduced myself to the Felders - they were such sweet girls and I hold them how they're one of my favorite of our labels and truly an inspiration to me. Kara thanked me for all my help and before I knew it I was getting ready to head home walking with the PR girls to the tube station. "Deni , you're one of us now" , said Sarah - and with that sentence I smiled the whole way home. I had never felt so exhausted and so excited for tomorrow all at the same time. Fashion week started with a bang and I was in my element...

THE RIKA PARTY! aka...the night before the week begins!

I woke up on Thursday morning with an overhwleming feeling that in 24 hours London Fashion Week would begin. This evening however , we had our Rika party to worry about. I planned my party outfit the night before (but more on that latter) & hopped into my day outfit of stripes & skinny's teamed with this brand new cyrillian blue beanie I got from H&M for 2pounds , that i'm kinda in love with. It just adds a pop of color to my look and an element of fun! The color reminds me of that scene in Devil Wears Prada about the blue jumper , cyrillian blue & all that!I walked into the office and 9 and already the buzz had began. There wasnt as many interns today however so it felt like a really cozy fashion family which was nice. The morning started with me going out to do another few runs of invites , some of the invites that are close enough to walk over we walk over and then the rest we post over. Much of the days building up to fashion week have consisted of me running around London to places like Grazia, Harpers Bazaar & Vogue magazine and a handful of Hotels where guests were staying , getting lost and phoning Ben in the process - to hand deliver these invitations. After visiting Cosmopolitan Mag and a few hotels 2 hours had passed when I returned to Goodley. Once back rachel informed me that her and I would be going to the venue for Rika's party to help set up and see how it was all going. The venue was 'The Shop at Bluebird' an amazing concept store on Kings Road - off swanky Sloane Square, that I never knew about. Ive been to a few cool concept stores here and in Paris (Colette one of the worlds most famous) and this place seriously is so much cooler, the space more beautiful and the range of clothing perfect! Think a juxtaposition of Alexander Wang , Isabel Marant , DVF , Halston Heritage along side Rika , McQ and Acne - throw in some homewares, candles, books and magazines and you've got my dream store basically! We walked into what appeared to be a pop-up boutique of sorts, where Ulrika herself (the designer of Rika) was merchandising everything to perfection. Ulrika is a stylist-turned-designer who's had her label Rika for a few years now. She started off with her signature star bags and then from accessories followed clothing. Her style is very urban downtown fashionista - think Sienna Miller & Kate Moss with a dose of Nicole Richie & Blake Lively. Ulrika looked gorgeous in her camel jersey biker jacket/cardi hybrid - from her new range - a white tee , black leggings, black boots, a small floppy hat & Rika animal print scarf - she epitomised her label and greeted us with a warm smile and rundown of what was going on. The room we were standing in was about the size of a small bedroom, 3 walls with an opening in the facing wall. Immediatley you step into the world of Rika , to find her signature bags & accessories displayed dead centre, to the right and left are rails of clothes and the back wall is covered in a collage of pages from Rika's new magazine , which is being launched at the evenings party. It was small with a big impact..
With her , were her two assistants following her every step. I went over to help the other interns with the goodie bags. VIP's got an expensive french candle and the 'Rika Mag' and the rest received just a copy of the magazine , both of which packed into a cute little Rika canvas bag. As you can see there was literally a mountain of goodie bags surrounding our makeshift prep-room!

After steaming clothes , the other interns went back to the office and I was left to represent Goodley, help Ulrika and anyone else who needed help until the party begun. At the entrance of the party was a big display of 4 Rika mannequins and the word Rika written largely in duck tape. awmonths the mannequins Rika began to randomly throw copies of the mag around the floor to not only promote the mag but also to fill the space creatively. I picked up a pile and started helping her. Before I knew it we were styling mannequins and asking each other for advice on how everything looked. I was in awe of her skills, her every tweak and pull resulted in an effortless chic look. The space looked fantastic and as I carried out a box of mags, hailed Ulrika a cab & kissed her goodbye (as she left to resort to her hotel whilst getting ready) I almost pinched myself. Back inside I noticed that the other areas designated for the party looked a bit dull so I took some more mags and displayed them on shoe racks & scattered them on furniture. Before I knew it , it was half an hour 'til the party was due to start & time for a costume change. I opted to stay in my skinny's and striped long sleeve & pair them with one of the most (if not the most) special pieces in my wardrobe - my limited edition sequinned Ksubi (previously known as tsubi) jumper. A piece I bought over a year ago. I cost me a whole month's wage but is such a special piece that holds many fond memories. I wore it to the Sex & the City movie premiere, I wore it to a work presentation back in my Myer buying days and I wore it the first time I kissed my now boyfriend Ben - so it was time to wear it for another prolific moment. I slipped in some shoulder pads for edge and rolled the sleeves up a bit to show some stripe. I was v pleased with the look and ready for the night to begin! Here I am posing it up for all you guys to see :)
5 minutes later Kara , Annette and Rach arrived - 'Here he is...' Kara exaclaimed and before I knew it we were putting her coat and bag away and talking about her shoes. Kara Goodley looked effortlessly chic (as she always does) in a white tunic , Isabel Marant denim jacket and grey suede Acne platforms. Guests began to arrive, the buzz in the air & the drink was flowing. The crowd was a mix of models , stylists , a few celebs and lots of cool 'fashion' people...Amazing raspberry margaritas was my poison of choice for the evening. Ulrika arrived looking simply stunning in her white Le Smoking tuxedo jacket , white tee , black skinny's and black beanie. Everyone at the party had cool style in their own way. Eclectic , rock , chich all styles out! My PR girls looked stunning as always , Rachh and Jane both rocked their individual looks...My favorite part of the party though was the half an hour chat I had with Ulrika - about the magazine , her label, the advice she gave me telling me to follow my dreams and never give up!
I also met a gorgeous TV presenter , who came across to room to compliment me on my jumper, we got talking and now i'm going to be her stylist. She's a television presenter for the BBC and one of the sweetest girls i've ever met so I'm very excited about this prospect (I will update you all on this very soon as its still in the early stages). The night had come to a successful end , handing out the goodie bags (getting to bring one home for myself - I heart candles) but the highlight of my night was coming home to my beautiful boyfriend and enjoying chicken burgers , chips, spicy wings and filling each other in on our day. Models & Designers are all well and good but its the ones you love who mean the most! xoxo Deni

BEN'S BIRTHDAY ADVENTURES !

February 16th came along and the day had arrived , my Benny's Birthday :) As I had given him one of his presents early (the McQueen tee) it was time to reveal the other couple. One part of the present was tickets to a show for Fashion week (due to start a few days after) and the big part of the present were tickets for a secret holiday I've been planning for almost 2 months now to an unknown location which I will reveal closer to the flight. Ben was very pleased with his gifts and today for his Birthday we had planned an adventure of sightseeing. The thought of being out of the PR world for a day sounded like heaven , just to relax be silly and play tourists again - how nice. A quick egg & bacon breakfast and it was off to the Victoria Coach Station to hop onto our bus which was going to take us to Salisbury Cathedral , Stonehenge and Bath. As it poured down on this rainy London day I got soaked & looked like a drowned rat getting up & on to the bus..
Our tourguide Mel , was older , flamboyant and had a dry wit about him , sometimes proving funny and other times pathetically not funny. As our bus departed out of London he spoke extensivley about London's history and culture. First stop was an hour and a half away , Salisbury cathedral , in the small city of Salisbury. Considered one of the leading examples in early English architecture, this cathedral took 38 years to complete. It began in the year 1220.

Inside was beautiful , very grandeur and big yet with enough spooky sensibility to make it a church. The decorated high ceilings and one of the oldest clocks in the world added to its old world charm. It also has a fountain right in the middle which we Ben found quite entertaining :)
Another beautiful feature I thought was the Cemetery Courtyard , the arches made me feel like I was in an old English university or something it just had a very amazing feel to it, I loved it!
Back on the bus and it was off to our next destination , half an hour out of Salisbury , to visit the world famous Stonehenge. Now for those of you who dont know, Stonehenge is about 10,000 years old , think about that - TEN THOUSAND YEARS - thats outrageously old! Many people debate what it actually is , but it is most commonly beleived to have been built as a church form. A place of gathering for holy occasions , prayer , offerings etc... So its kind of un-officially the world oldest church. Once we got up there and through the swarms of tourists it was amazing.
We wondered around observing it from all angles , froze in the wind (thankgod it didnt rain) but then it was back onto the bus for another hour and a bit and off to my favorite destination of this journey - Bath! The city of Bath was first established as a spa destination by the Romans in AD 43. They built Bath's and a temple on the surrounding hills of Bath in the valley of the River Avon around hot springs which are the only natural occuring hot springs in the United Kingdom. The city of Bath is now a listed World Heritage Site and is truly quite an amazing place. We stepped off the bus infront of Bath Abbey and walked over towards the Roman baths. Baths has the same historical european sensibility that Edinburgh had and I soon began to love this place even more. As we entered the Roman Bath's the history and structure was quite amazing.
What I really loved was that it was like a little piece of Italy found in the English countryside.I would just like to point out that as I pose for this photo , I almost slipped on the cobble stones and fell into the Bath's which as they are now bacteria filled - would not be a good thing. Such a Deni thing to do! After the tour of the Bath's it was off for an explore of the city itself. Again the pure fact that it feels like you've stepped into a time machine and are now in this ancient city , was what got me - its truly amazing - sure it has a Starbucks & Hungry Jacks , but modern technology has not overruled the heritage buildings and structures that fill the city. It also had an amazing bridge in the middle of the city , resembling the Ponte Vecchio in Florence - again an italian influence on this old English city. However the juxtaposition of it all is perfect! After a very long day it was on the bus back home to London town. It truly was an amazing day I wont soon forget and the perfect way to spend Ben's Birthday. Waiting for us at home was the birthday cake I made for Ben, sure I did it with a little help from Betty Crocker but at the end of the day I made it and I put my twist on it. Ben is obsessed with these biscuits over here called 'Hobnobs' so I decided to cut them up and put them through the cake mix so that it would be like a 'Hobnob Chip' chocolate cake. I must say I was quite proud of the end result and Ben loved it!xoxo Deni
