A LITTLE BOY WITH A BIG FASHION DREAM!

It goes without saying that fashion is the fantasy land I live in. Everyday I live and breathe Fashion, its constantly on my mind, I am constantly inspired by my surroundings and I always joke that I think about fashion even when I'm sleeping - I very often will have a dream solely about a Balenciaga 'Weekender' Bag I highly covet - for example! So when I packed my "Prada" backpack with London in my sights I fantasised about the possibilities the London fashion world could give me. Queue me exactly 4 months later getting ready to go for an interview for an internship with a GOODLEY PR a fashion PR Firm (though firm makes it sound like a big factory its actually more like a small salon). So what to wear was my first concern...I opted for this look -
I threw on a plain white tee , layered with my new Diesel Black Gold silk-wool grey sweater with lurex detail on the neck and sleeves (pure luxury) , threw on my indigo blue Cheap Mondays' and decided to get my 'business' on with my grey blazer - inserting my new shoulder pads to give my look power and confidence. With last minute touches such as my Cat Hamill beads , my favorite House of Harlow & Diva rings , my leather & chain necklace (Chanel circa Sportsgirl) and my beloved Alexander McQueen Scarf. Zara bag in hand I was ready to take over the fashion world - or try at the very least. As I got off at Green Park station I was an hour early for my interview, so to kill time I thought i'd keep myself inspired and go for a walk up to Saville Row. Saville Row is world renown as a street that is lined with the most bespoke tailors in London. No suit is better cut or made than a suit from the 'Saville Row' and Christian Dior designer John Galliano used to be an apprentice to one of these tailors and he always says thats where he learn the majority of his skills as a dressmaker - as you walk down the Saville Row you notice the suit boutiques and then underneath in the basement you see the tailors cutting , pinning , deliberating over the fit of a suit from the lapel to the sleeve length. It was very inspiring...the picture below shows a tailoring studio that specialises making uniforms/outfits for members of the royal family and royal courts - I love the armour inspired looks on the table...Next stop was Chanel as I still hadnt been in the Bond St store - when I walked in the store was positively buzzing and full of Japanese tourists - no suprises there - one thing about Chanel stores that I love though is they always smell positively amazing! As I was walking out I spotted a cute bracelet with the ever dominating interlocking C's that I had to try on. As I asked for some service a messenger arrived into the buzzing store with a huge bouquet of flowers. He handed it over to the closest sales assistant he saw and suddenly her eyes popped out of her head when she saw on the card that the flowers were infact for her. She gasped and uttered 'Dios Mio' (oh my god - in spanish) over to her brazilian co-worker. "They're for me!" - awww, I thought, how sweet is that (i've always wanted to receive flowers at work - yes i'm a boy who loves flowers so leave me alone hehe) she then went an opened the card and said out loud to the whole store 'Oh , they're not from my boyfriend , they're from my best friends' boyfriend' - everyone giggled slightly and so there it was a scandalous delivery of flowers at Chanel's London Flagship - how perfect - I'm sure Coco would approve! I tried on the overpriced bracelet and left starting to prepare myself mentally for my interview - Rihanna's 'Hard' blaring from the iPod , it was the perfect soundtrack to get me pumped - there's something about that song that makes me feel like a fiercely confident fashion-trooper heading into war - victory was before my eyes! I walked over to Dover Street & up to 'Dover Yard' an arch way that would lead me to fashion!
As I walked into GOODLEY PR the white reception area was about the size of a small bathroom standing behind the desk was an edgy looking girl with a cool 'under cut' style hair cut , glasses and charcoal blazer , above her hung a Plasma screen showing the fashion show of one of the desingers they represent. "I'm here for Rachel Lubin" I said to girl (who's name I later found out was Chloe) - basically I got the interview through my friend Charlotte's sister Rachel , who works for Goodley. I was telling her just a week ago that I need to get my fashion career on the move and she told me to come interview for an upcoming intern position. As Rach walked out of the showroom dressed perfectly in a black shift dress , black tights and black ankle boots (black - always the uniform of fashionistas) she welcomed me with a "Hello darling" and was off to get 'Thanos' the guy I was having the interview with. As Rachel walked back in the showroom for a meeting I noticed the showroom - which resembled a large sophisticatedly elegant english living room - was full of beautiful clothes , the collections of the designers they represent. I sat down for the interview nervously tapping my toe , took off my McQueen scarf and wrapped it around the arms of my bag , took a deep breath and so arrived Thanos , greeting me with a handshake - "I'm sorry we cant use the showroom for the interview as they're having an important meeting so we'll just do it here in reception" - we sat on the black couch/pouff type thing , a beautifully scented candle wafting through the air , I must say it was a nice relaxing setting for an interview and probably much more comfortable than an uptight table interview. I told Thanos a bit about myself and he told me that I came very highly regarded by Rachel. He warned me that it was going to be very hard work '...sometimes we dont eat lunch , we just forget to because of how busy it gets, so I hope that's going to be ok' - more than fine , I thought , I've done that many times before and am more than willing to work my ass off for this job! "So what are you doing fashion week?" - he asked me (LFW is approaching in 2 weeks) "um..nothing" I replied - "Fantastic because you'll be working all of fashion week with us , we'll go to the shows , set up , help out , we have 9 shows over the course of 6 days so I'm going to need you the whole week" - I couldnt beleive my ears , I was going to be working my first London Fashion Week and i've pretty much just got here - I stopped myself from crying and continued to be proffessional - "Not a problem , I will be on it" , a few more details were covered, I was introduced to Chloe and he told me that I start on Monday. It was officially the quickest interview i've ever had - a total of 13minutes long - but as I walked out of Dover Yard and onto the gloomy , grey , rainy , Dover Street - stepping in a puddle in the process - nothing could wipe the enormous smile on my face. Nothing could ruin this day , not the rain, not the puddles , not the grey sky that loomed above me - the sun was shining in my heart and it was written over my face. A few tears streamed from my eyes as I walked the sidewalk - which had now become my imaginary runway - and I had the overwhelming feeling that suddenly it was all about to happen. I am finally going to be doing what I moved an Ocean to do - my fashion dreams were about to come true. Basically I'll be doing kind of everything, PR (Public Relations) organise publicity for their fashion labels. They make sure they get their clothes on the right celebrities , in the right magazines , at the right events - as much as it will be a lot hard work and may possibly include running up and down to Starbucks to fetch everyone their coffee but I am more than willing to start at the very bottom , even beneath the bottom , to prove that I am hard working enough to be given more responsibility and opportunity and the fashion doors that this internship will open will be endless and will be once in a lifetime! I am so thrilled to have been given this opportunity and must give a big shout of to my Lubin Girls (Rach & Char) as they have both helped make this happen! I will keep y'all posted with all my intern adventures via this blog so keep your eyes peeled - until then xoxo Deni
